TOP 10 TIPS FOR MORE ENGAGING VIDEO CONTENT

YouTube is the perfect platform for online videos for lots of reasons, here are three:

  1. Every day people watch hundreds of millions of hours on YouTube, generating billions of views
  2. It’s the second largest search engine on the internet
  3. It provides an analytics interface that allows users to monitor video views and engagement over time

For these reasons YouTube really does need to factor an important role in pretty much every online video strategy.

Although, in the past couple of years there have been some significant changes in the way audiences consume online video. Other commonly used social media platforms have introduced new algorithms and interfaces that have encouraged a huge drive towards online video.

Facebook has been a real game changer for video, it’s auto-play function was criticised as a nuisance when first released, but Zuckerberg must have known what he was doing. Over a year later and video consumption would not be the same without auto-play. The function allows the user to watch an entire video without sound or clicking through to an external video play screen from the news feed. Savvy businesses embraced the video marketing opportunities of auto-play early on. They realised videos that could grab viewer’s attention in the first three seconds without sound where most successful.

It’s common for me to now suggest to most of my clients to upload an original video file directly to Facebook as a secondary video platform. It’s also critical to focus on making the first 5 seconds of video the most visually engaging. In November 2014 the number of videos uploaded directly to Facebook overtook YouTube videos on the network for the first time. It’s an impressive stat, considering that until recently the social network wasn’t even considered a destination for video.

Whether it’s through social media or on your website, using good video marketing strategies makes your content 53 times more likely to rank on the first page of Google.  It’s worth your time and money to invest in good video production and marketing strategy advice. Take a look at the ten tips below, by THE SEEN, on how you can achieve more engaging video content.
